BLAST RITES - Suicide Solution (2012)

The Foes of Serenity

„Suicide Solution” is the first Blast Rites official effort so far, but now I know that it is the biggest surprise in the first half of 2013. They provided really professional product: nice, modest digipak with absolutely great cover, which is in my opinion a perfect mix of two Misery Index pictures coming from “Traitors” and “Heirs to Thievery” albums. Although the band shows the legal links to download this material from their sites, releasing the music in physical form is always the most important thing. I am very lucky the band understands this. What is more, the realization of sound is also on very good level with no sterility, it is powerful and aggressive, everything is audible.

Musically this six-tracker is a fine piece of death metal (mainly), grindcore and deathcore. To tell the truth, the last genre isn’t my favourite genre, but “Suicide Solution” is without strong core influences, luckily. Of course, breakdowns are present, but only in three songs (1, 2, 5) and… I like it. It is a good complement to the entirety and a needful variety that doesn’t destroy the overall impression. For sure merciless death metal reigns here, and when I want to compare this material to another band, Kataklysm comes to my mind (“Shadows & Dust” and “Serenity in Fire” era), especially when Blast Rites play extremely fast tempos. But it seems that Poles are more devastating crew because they aren’t as melodic as the Canadians. Matter of course, the catchy layers are almost in every song, but do not expect any sweetness here, guitar riffs are smartly hidden in the background and don’t soften the musical devastation. The next thing is the band didn’t use any useless intros or samples, so I get the annihilative music exclusively. Twenty minutes run very quickly, not only because Padre destroys his own drums without any mercy, but also due to permanent rhythm changes. The band shows only the metal essence, so there is no time for boredom.

It is hard to choose the best song here, but for sure “For the World Is Ours” differs from the rest because of very calm opening and almost psychedelic atmosphere. Or maybe take a listen to the very interesting “Abused by a Whore” where ending part simply kills: it brings well known and such beloved melodic tunes taken from…  the gold times of Swedish death metal.  Really good track, but there is a need to write something about the vocal lines, because in this intense well arranged music, they are another instrument. Sosna, the vocalist, is a wild animal. Whilst, he doesn’t bring any originality, but he mixes all the brutal possible vocal lines: from guttural growls (mainly) to shrieks, screams and pig squeals. Nothing new indeed, however Sosna’s forms of singing aren’t monotonous and boring, nonetheless, he did a good job with his vocal cords.

To cut it short: “Suicide Solution” perfectly feeds my extreme musical tastes. Only 20 minutes but there is no time to yawn due to the perfect balance between faster and slower parts. This material is vivid, full of energy and raging brutality, with various ideas, rhythmical slowdowns and absolutely crushing drums parts. It’s great that the young band has not only high skills to perform the music, but their ‘product’ has a sign of metal madness. These guys cannot go unnoticed. And man, even if I added Blast Rites to the site, I’m not going to play any nationalistic games, because these guys simply rule! I hope they will release a full-length as soon as possible. For sure the task is difficult, however I am convinced that the band will record a very good album in future. Thus… I wait for a second shot.
