ABOMINATTION - Hated by the Flames (1999)

Admiring the Scenery of Nice Abomination

Abominattion has been formed on the ashes of Anesthesia in 1998. Even if the line-up hasn’t been changed except the drummer, the Brazilians served modification of their musical style. The interesting hybrid of thrash and death known from “Burning Souls” demo felt into oblivion almost completely and this time death metal is on the scene, mostly in the vein of their countrymen from Krisiun. The confirmation of such thesis is the opening song “Hated by the Flames”, however Abominattion (yes, there’s double ‘t’ letter!) doesn’t use blast beats as often as Krisiun does. Suliani brothers show several slow-downs, and the proneness to play more complex guitar structures is audible. The melodic layers stick to my mind even if in this track thrash influences are gone here. The next one is different, yes, it has faster ravager beginning and seems to be a merciless killer by killing tempo only. But what a misleading impression! The second part is maintained in slower tempos with great Slayer-like riffs, but the best here is the second guitar lead. Absolutely astonishing. And all these components make this song a truly killing piece of metal. Even now, while listening to “The Emptiness of the Flesh”, it strikes my senses without any mercy.

That’s for sure that name changing determined more brutal music. However I wasn’t wondering about the reasons to play such kind of (fashionable at that time) metal. Maybe the worldly underground didn’t put his huge interest on Anesthesia sufficiently, or maybe the change has been caused by simple human musical impulse. Anyway, these two pieces really kicked my death metal ass, and the band was sure about such a fan’s condition, as the songs found the place on the forthcoming debut album. But this is another story…
